First Nyerges lab preprint

Proud and excited to share the Nyerges lab’s first preprint, in which we:

  • create a high-fitness firewalled organism,
  • that stably colonizes the mouse gut for >100 days,
  • resists all tested bacteriophages in the gut,
  • and blocks horizontal gene transfer.

Plus a new method: chimera genome generation to tailor existing synthetic recoded genomes for a wide range of useful applications, including safe gut-colonizing living therapeutics in this work and biocontained, genetically firewalled organisms for environmental bioremediation, cancer therapy, and industrial bioproduction in the future.
